Data Center Assessment - Level Three

A Detailed Power and Cooling Analysis of Your Data Center

Our level three comprehensive data center / server room assessment offers a detailed power and cooling analysis based on measured electrical distribution load readings at the rack level. The level three data center assessment is invasive (typically performed during nights and weekends). During this assessment, Electronic Environments will:

  • Note the general conditions of your data center or server room's physical infrastructure including: Computer Room Air Conditioners (CRAC), Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems and the power distribution infrastructure
  • Measure areas of excessive temperaturesMeasurement of airflow from plenum floor tiles
  • Measure humidity
  • Measure CRAC supply & return temperatures
  • Measure airflow from plenum floor tiles
  • Measure UPS input/output
  • Measure PDU and electrical distribution branch circuits
  • Measure CRAC power consumption
  • Review of maintenance procedures and practices
  • Perform an infrared scan of racks for high temperatures
  • Perform an infrared scan of the room for temperature anomalies
  • Inspect the subfloor and ceiling plenum (where applicable)

The Deliverables from the Level Three Data Center Assessment

  • Electronic Environments will deliver a comprehensive written report of all findings from the assessment that includes:
  • Comprehensive report of power / cooling / space analysis based on nominal capacities and displayed load from UPS or PDUs
  • Rack locations and areas of high temperatures
  • Infrared images indicating high rack temperatures
  • Air distribution analysis
  • Recommendations for problem resolution
  • Optional - Floor plan
  • Three hard copies and one soft copy of the report

Features and Benefits of the Level Three Data Center Assessment

Features Benefits
Detailed evaluation of the critical power and cooling infrastructure condition and utilization based on measured load data Provides a thorough understanding of power, cooling and space utilization and an indication of stranded capacity
Measurement of airflow and rack power utilization Ensure that cold air distribution is sufficient to meet the cooling demands of the computer loads
Thermal imaging of temperature anomalies within the data center Use of state of the art equipment to clearly identify high rack inlet temperatures, cold air leakage and room related problems

Additional Data Center Assessment Levels Available

Electronic Environments offers two additional levels of data center or server room assessments as well as additional service modules that can be added to configure a service package that suits your budget and business needs.

Level One Data Center Health Check Assessment - A basic service that will provide you with an inventory of your critical power and cooling equipment, note overall operating conditions and present recommendations to improve infrastructure reliability and service life.

Level Two Intermediate Data Center Assessment - A more broad service that will provide room scale power and cooling capacity and utilization information as well as rack level cooling analysis using airflow measurement and infrared imaging.
