MARLBOROUGH, MASSACHUSETTS,-- July 10, 2008 – Electronic Environments Corporation (EEC) has completed a “green” turn-key data center design build project for the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) at their new Headquarters in Yarmouth Port, Massachusetts. IFAW’s new headquarters was built using an environmentally conscious design achieving LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification. EEC completed the 1100 square foot data center on time and in accordance with all LEED certification guidelines.

“EEC partnered with IFAW from the start of the project to design build and deliver a high-performance, energy-efficient, data center ,” said IFAW Director of IT Operations Phyllis Bayer. “The EEC team, led by project manager Steve Pusateri, was professional, responsive and clearly dedicated to the success of the project.”
For EEC’s Engineers, going green included incorporating energy efficiency and eco-friendly products into the design of the data center. This included: using energy efficient lighting, environmentally friendly refrigerant in the CRAC units (R407C which has no ozone-depletion potential), all products like the adhesives for the raised access floor pedestals, VCT, and cove base needed to be LEED certified and the data center was designed and built to ensure airflow was unobstructed during operation, optimizing cooling efficiency.
Electronic Environments’ scope included: designing and building the 1,100 square foot data center on raised access flooring; all the electrical and mechanical work; and the installation of a 100 kVA UPS system, remote power distribution cabinets, and four 5-ton CRAC units. The room was also piped for a future 5-ton unit for N+1 redundant cooling. EEC also provided a complete environmental monitoring solution for the data center, which will enable IFAW to respond to any type of alarm condition within the data center from water leak detection to loss of building power. After move in and startup of the data center, EEC provided training for IFAW’s data center staff covering the operation of the UPS system, CRAC units, and environmental monitoring system. Going forward, EEC will provide preventative maintenance on all the infrastructure equipment supporting the data center, including a pre-action fire suppression system and the building generator.
