Emergency Backup Power Equipment Systems - Scope of Services

Annual Service, Major

ENGINE
Lubrication system:

  • Pull oil sample for analysis.
  • Change lube oil and lube oil filters.
  • Inspect for leaks.

Fuel system:

  • Change fuel filter. (if applicable)
  • Inspect fuel supply manifolds for leaks, condition, and security.
  • Check level of fuel supply, refuel if needed and customer authorizes.
  • Inspect engine fuel lines, pump, and filters for leaks and condition.

Air system:

  • Inspect louvers for proper operation.
  • Inspect air filters. 
  • If applicable, Inspect turbo outlet hoses and pipes.  Tighten clamps and brackets, as required.
  • Service crankcase breathers, as required.

Cooling system:

  • Pull coolant sample for analysis
  • Check coolant level.
  • Check and record freeze protection; adjust freeze protection, as required.
  • Chemical test corrosion protection; add inhibitor, as needed.
  • Pressure test to system rated pressure, and inspect for leaks.
  • Inspect fan shrouds, guards, and brackets.  Tighten components, as required.
  • Inspect radiator core.
  • Inspect fan drive belt(s) for condition and proper tension, adjust as required.
  • Inspect and lubricate idler and fan drive bearings.
  • Check condition of mounts, brackets, and adjusters tighten fasteners, as required.
  • Inspect coolant hoses and pipes, tighten clamps, as required.

Exhaust system:

  • Inspect exhaust pipes and flexes where accessible.
  • Inspect muffler supports.
  • Inspect turbocharger clamps and brackets. (if applicable)

Electrical system:

  • Inspect starter cables, wire, and connectors for condition and security, tighten as required.
  • Check and record starting battery float voltage.
  • Check and record battery specific gravity.
  • Check electrolyte levels, add distilled water as required.
  • Check charger for proper operation, adjust as required.
  • Load test starting batteries and record voltages.
  • Inspect electrical control and sensor wire terminations, tighten as required.
  • Check operation of jacket water heater and control thermostats.


GENERATOR
Mechanical:

  • Inspect mounting bolts.
  • Inspect fan guard for condition and security.
  • Inspect air inlet screen for cleanliness, condition, and security.
  • Inspect and lubricate bearings, as required.
  • Inspect mechanical connections for tightness.

Electrical:

  • Check and record residual no load, and full load volts.
  • Inspect exciter assembly, stator, and field windings for cleanliness and physical integrity.
  • Inspect cable and wire termination at generator for condition and security.
  • Inspect rotating rectifier and surge protector.
  • Inspect end bell enclosure for cleanliness.


CONTROLS
Visual inspection and check:

  • Operation of auto start and remote controls.
  • Operation and accuracy of AC and engine instruments.
  • System frequency and voltage, adjust if necessary.


IF CUSTOMER AUTHORIZES
Test run generator under connected load for approximately 15 minutes at no-load to ensure proper operation.

Documentation of inspection with recommendations for any corrective action deemed necessary will be provided.


Semi-Annual Service, Minor

ENGINE
Lubrication system:

  • Check oil level, top off as required.
  • Inspect for evidence of dilution or contamination.
  • Inspect for leaks.

Fuel system:

  • Inspect fuel supply manifolds for leaks, condition, and security.
  • Check level of fuel supply, refuel if needed and customer authorizes.
  • Inspect engine fuel lines, pump, and filters for leaks and condition.

Air system:

  • Inspect louvers for proper operation.
  • Inspect air filters. 
  • If applicable, Inspect turbo outlet hoses and pipes.  Tighten clamps and brackets, as required.
  • Service crankcase breathers, as required.
