Data Center (or server) Hot Spots are becoming more common with the introduction of higher density racks and blade servers. Racks that previously housed 1-3 kilowatts (kW) of IT equipment are now being asked to support 10 -15 kW or more on the same raised floor. The HotSpotr line of active airflow components has been specifically designed to quickly and reliably solve a variety of Data Center cooling issues and your personnel can self install them in 30 minutes. Computer room cooling issues that can be quickly solved with HotSpotr products include underfloor obstructions, shallow raised floor height, high density racks, poor computer room air conditioners (CRAC) placement, poor rack placement, and poor room layout. In short, the HotSpotr is a quick and effective solution to solve Data Center airflow and cooling problems that cannot be solved by simple passive methods. Data center hot spots typically result from five factors: - concentrated server heat production
- too little cool airflow to densely populated racks
- invisible vortices under the floor
- obstructions in the room
- hot air sneaking into the intakes of your rack-top servers.
HotSpotr eliminates the heat build-up these factors cause. Download the HotSpotr brochure, check out our HotSpotr FAQs and view the HotSpotr video Improve Server Uptime and CRAC Efficiency HotSpotr is a family of powered airflow improvement products that move chilled data center air to precisely where it is needed the most, and remove heated exhaust air directly back to your computer room air conditioners (CRACs). HotSpotr is reliable, self contained and scalable. These maintenance free units are designed for trouble free use and ease of installation. HotSpotr units can be added as needed throughout the data center, they can be installed and operated independently or can be networked together to cool larger areas as part of Room Scale Intelligent Cooling systems. Multiple product configurations offer the right level of airflow management. Most HotSpotr units are compatible with most building management systems (BMS) so the operating status and emergency power off (EPO) functions can be easily interfaced to the BMS for remote monitoring and control. HotSpotr can be used with both 110- and 240-volt power.
When installed, HotSpotr is seamless and practically invisible. There is no server downtime required for installation. Floor units become part of the floor and overhead units are hidden above the drop ceiling space. Installation is quick and easy and requires no movement of existing racks. In fact the HotSpotr underfloor units require no special tools, simply plug in and power on.
Underfloor units are designed to replace a standard size floor tile in raised floor data centers (with a little as 6” depth) so there is no clutter of portable fans or spot coolers. Overhead units fit into the space above the drop ceiling, effectively disappearing with only the diffuser visible. The overhead return drives hot server air back to the computer room air conditioner’s (CRAC’s), removing heat and improving CRAC performance. - What is the total capacity of all the CRACs you have running? ____ Tons
- What is the total load of your IT equipment (from UPS)? ____ kVA
- Divide line 1 by line 2. ____ Tons/kVA
- If Line 3 equals 0.7 or more, you can use HotSpotr immediately to move your data center’s chilled air to where it will do the most good. Is Line 3 a lower number? Please call us.
